Usman A. Fiaz

PhD Student | Robotics Enthusiast | Electrical Engineer

I am a 2nd year PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering, at the University of Maryland College Park. I am affiliated with the  Autonomy, Robotics, and Cognition (ARC) Lab and the Institute for Systems Research (ISR), under supervision of  Prof.  John S. Baras.

Broadly speaking, my research interests lie in some of the modern areas in control theory, robotics, and machine learning; with special emphasis on autonomous multi-agent systems. Some of my  recent work, investigates intelligent designs for aerial grasping, and the applications of game theory in programmable self-assembly for modular robots.

More specifically I'm interested in the following topics:
  • Assured autonomy in multi-agent systems
  • Programmable self-assembly and self-reconfiguration
  • Autonomous aerial grasping and surveillance

Recently I interned with Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs as well, where I worked on developing a test bed for UAV based indoor surveillance, using deep learning techniques.
